Well then. 2021 sure did come in like a wrecking ball, didn’t it?
The scenes from Wednesday, January 6th at Washington’s capitol building were shocking.
World leaders condemned the violence. Social media platforms began banning the instigators. And brands issued rebukes. Even big corporate political donations were said to dry up.
But reader, all of the above is a blog post for another day (though we were very happy to see many brands taking our lead by doing the “Stop. Drop. And Roll.” during a time of crisis when it came to their marketing efforts last week).Because today, we have a happy story for you. The 4 AM Report is back, and this week we talked to an enterprising young Toronto couple who b*tch-slapped 🦠Covid-19🦠 into a (soon to be) cookie empire. 💪🍪👊👨🍳
Covid-19, Cookies, and Courage
After both were laid off back in March, Chelsea Hearty and “hobby-baker” Ian Moores began baking cookies in their kitchen, as treats for friends.
And as they lay out on their Courage Cookies website, “It started with sneaky deliveries and ninja-like drop-offs. Demand suddenly rose, but we knew we could be doing more. We really needed to give back to the people who were truly working the hardest and putting themselves at risk every day during these crazy times.”
And give back they did! The picture of purpose over profit, they baked their BUTTS off, and have raised +$34,000 to help their local community!
Spilling Some Toronto Troll Tea!
There are four chatty folks in today’s podcast, peeps, so it’s a little tough to pull quotes from this one. But suffice it to say, it’s worth your time to have a listen.
Chelsea and Ian really talk the talk and walk the walk. And they stood up to one Toronto-based restaurant owner who brazenly broke the Covid-19 restrictions and became a bit of a “Canadian right-wing hero” because of it (see above re: what’s happening in America – yes, it’s also brewing here!).
Needless to say, Courage Cookies was having no part of these antics, and they boldly – and publicly – took him to task! They’ve got hilarious troll stories, you want to hear it.
They’re super cool and fun, and their story is the epitome of 2020. Inadvertently starting a business due to shutdowns and job loss (whispers the dirty word: *pivot*)!
They also deliver country wide, so check them out, and wherever you are in Canada, feel good about stuffing your face while giving back! 😂😂😂
