Learning to communicate in a post-pandemic, neo-civil war, post-apocalyptic world is a need of the times.
Because ‘the dystopian future’ is here now.
Are you starting to see that 2020 will forever be known as the year of the pandemic. We’ll define time as pre-pandemc and post-pandemic. (The new BC/AD)
With it comes the need to communicate with emotional intelligence and values.
It doesn’t have to be this particular moment. It doesn’t have to be specific to COVID-19, or black lives matter. Other things could happen.
Trump could be removed.
Trump could be re-elected
Trump could shut down the elections.
(Ok we’re done with the Trump ones. But extrapolate for your own amusement. It’s a fun rabbit hole. Promise!)
It could be specific to your business or industry.
It could be social.
It could be the things your customers value.
We are in testy times.
And if you as a founder or marketer are feeling like you’re walking on eggshells all the time, you are not alone.
The official term for the type of marketing is crisis communication. However, if that remains your ‘new normal’ then it needs some better naming.
And it needs removing from the hallowed, expensive hallways of a few ‘fixer’ agencies, and reputation management firms.
Old school crisis comms

Reactive – usually fixes something that is very crap and needs cleaning up

Expensive – because it’s hard to clean up something that’s already had a bit of backlash

Cumbersome – approval and compliance filled
Post pandemic communication

Proactive – gets ahead of the crisis by preparing and re-centering to values

Value – this is the building of a thought leadership ‘flywheel’ that builds and keeps momentum

Nimble – works in a finite space and reacts quickly
If the column on the right is your jam, we should talk.

Who are we?
We are c+p digital. Obsessed with simplification. Strategic marketing empaths. Fanatical believers in the fact that digital return on investment is prove-able. Quasi-religious about agile project management. Guardians of the disruptive powers of the clever use of ‘offline’ in a digital world.
We are a team of senior strategists, creatives and project managers. In our team of 8 is the following break down of people who thrive on adrenalin and problem fixing:
- One person grocery shopped illegally in Uganda at age 7. Carried the love of drama into crisis comms, including a leadership in real estate/logistics during the 2008 financial crisis.
- One person is raised in fast paced food and lifestyle space and learned the art of the unbeatable pitch and spin. (Pssst they don’t actually use it unless it’s really really needed.)
- One person was the boss of agency production for top notch agencies globally, and literally knows how to make newspapers hold the deadline.
- One person worked in canadian TV land, and has and eagle eye for news and potential fuck ups that blows the average mind.
- One person has been in some of the world’s oddest places when war and drama erupted, and can actually build something while you hold a gun to their head.
And the rest, while they’ve chosen to live a life of relative drama, also have stories that would blow your mind.
