Is it just us – or did every single relentless day of 2020 feel like Groundhog Day…??
Seriously folks. After the year we’ve all just had…? 💀☠️💀
There’s no shame in admitting to the biggest B of them all: BURNOUT 🔥🚨🔥
Yup. That’s pretty much ALL of our brains. Right there. 👆👆👆😂😂😂
That’s why, as we revealed on this week’s episode of the 4 AM Report…
We. Are. OUTTA HERE!!! 🎉👋💫👋🎉
That’s right – early in December, we made a pact: get it done so we can shut it down.
We planned and executed a 🦸🏽♀️ superhero-level 🦸♂️ assault on deliverables, so that we could all have a proper break.
We’ve promised to avoid emails. And enjoy the staycay.
We’re pretty proud of us, too.
Here’s a little sampling of our chat, to inspire you TOO to take a much-needed break (if you can).
It’s Groundhog Day…Again
“I think something that I want to be better at when I come back after taking that break is setting some boundaries, introducing some rituals into my life, because I feel that part of the burnout has been that rolling out of bed in my pajamas, opening my laptop going on a zoom, maybe eventually I shower at 2pm. And by the time I go outside, it’s night again! I walk around for a bit and I come back, and then it’s Groundhog Day all over again. I’ve been feeling that sort of burnout.”
“This is not new to us, right? It’s not like we started to work from home because of the pandemic. We’ve been working from home in this sort of virtual space for a while now. But you know, that came with other people not in your space, in my case, and not being stuck inside your house all the time, which is what’s changed. Before, there were certain deadlines and “daily life” stuff that became the impetus to take a break! I had to pick up my child at 5:30. I had to make sure she was at school at 8:30. I got my workday started at a certain time, you know, those kinds of things. I was good at following the framework, but then came this – what we like to call – this free for all shit show. And I enjoy it parts of it, let’s not take it take anything away from it, I enjoy being able to work in my pajamas, I enjoy not having to get dressed and waste 40 minutes on doing something like you know, my makeup or whatever, I really do enjoy that part of it.”
Business Owners Must Set Boundaries
“I know it’s tempting. It’s tempting to be like, ‘I’ll just get this one little thing written up or I will make that little plan for two days,’ or whatever. Just don’t do it. If you’ve got a few days to really work your behind off, get it done, even if it means some late night’ers between now and the end – do it!! A lot of small business owners and entrepreneurs feel like even if they closed the doors to – quote ‘the shop’ unquote – on a virtual team, they then think, ‘I’ve got a few days off, just need to do some planning, and some brainstorming for the new year, and, and…’, No. What we’re saying is to put a pin in that! After the year we’ve all just had…??? Give yourself that time off, where you don’t think your free time means you SHOULD be doing extra brainstorming for work. We’ve done some of that already, and we’ve already scheduled some marketing operation type meetings early in the new year (not the first two days back, mind you, because those will probably be a little chaotic) Don’t over schedule yourself. Right at the start of coming back. But either way, take a cold turkey break!”
Make the best of this break. We definitely are going to! Read that book you never have time for. Binge-watch a series or ten. Learn to bake! Get outside. Sleep in late! And eat and drink ALL THE THINGS 🍷🍿🍾🧁- judge not lest ye be judged, and all that jazz. 🎷🎷🎷
Whichever holiday you celebrate – be kind to yourself this year. Steal some downtime. Enjoy the special people in your bubble. 🌟🤩🌟
HUGE thanks to all of you for what has, all things considered, turned into a great year – we couldn’t have survived it without you. 😘🥰😘
And here’s to a happy, successful 2021 – we’ll see you in the New Year!! 🍾🎉💫🥂🍾
