How Your Podcast Can Stand Out in a Sea of Online Content

Why invest in a podcast? Why put the work into ensuring your podcast rises to the top of today’s deluge of digital clutter? Think Canadians are behind the times when it comes to podcasts?Not according to reporting by Edison Research. The Infinite Dial® 2020 Canada, the third annual comprehensive study of digital media behavior in Canada, from Edison Research and Triton Digital®, found that “Podcast consumption levels in Canada are now equal to those in the United States.

I mean, not that we have something to prove to our neighbours to the south, but still, YAY US! Especially if you’ve been thinking about starting a podcast, or you’ve already started, and just aren’t quite sure if all the hard work is worth it.

It is.

A few more stats:

🔥 Seventy percent of Canadians overall surveyed reported consuming online audio.

🔥 Thirty-seven percent of Canadians age 18 and up are monthly podcast listeners (with 24% listening weekly!).

🔥 Home is where the heart is, with 81% listening at home, compared to 40% in a vehicle.

🔥 And eighty percent of adult Canadian podcast consumers listen to *all or most* of a typical podcast episode.

Stand Out in a Sea of Online Content

Ok. So, podcasts are worth the work. They’ve officially hit the mainstream (and haven’t yet jumped the shark!).

Numbers vary, but suffice it to say there are hundreds of thousands of podcasts out there.

But there are ALSO tips and tricks you can use to help your podcast stand out from the sea of others currently hitting the airwaves.

Things like:

💫 Being laser-focused on homing in on your particular niche – on what makes YOU (and/or your guests) interesting.

💫 Dropping the pretension – believe it or not, unless you’re Oprah, people usually don’t want to hear a long, drawn out opening about you.

💫 Injecting yourself into your podcast using your or your brand’s particular sense of humour or personality (in other words, finding creative ways to bring YOU into the podcast, without boring people to tears! 😂)

💫 And ramping up your distribution – being creative with how you get your micro-content out to the masses. You can read this post for more on that idea!
