There’s an old adage that goes something like this: If you’re on a plane, and the oxygen masks drop, even if you’re with your children – you PUT💥YOUR💥MASK💥ON💥FIRST💥!!!
We are serious! Because if YOU aren’t functioning at top form, you won’t be able to help anyone else around you.
And the same goes for how you function in your personal and professional lives.
Take Steps to Destress and Get Healthy
Ok. That 👆👆👆was creepy, even by our standards. 🤣😂🤣
Our guest on the 4 AM Report this week is a specialist when it comes to health and wellness, mental and otherwise, especially when it comes to the workplace.
Lydia Di Francesco is a workplace wellness consultant, speaker, published writer, and a personal trainer. She helps companies understand the connection between well-being and mental health and employee productivity and retention.
She also focuses on taking time each day to “find your wins.” From the largest to the smallest – wins are still wins!
“I teach my clients and the employees that I work with that part of that stressful feeling that we have a lot of times is that we’re not accomplishing things or that there’s always something to do. And I think it’s really important in life to take a moment to focus on an accomplishment – focus on a win, and these wins are little, like, sometimes a win is me taking a nap. Because that’s what I needed to do that day. Sometimes, a win is business related for me. I got a client, or I finished a project. When it’s personal related, really there’s no amount of smallness. That doesn’t really make sense. It can be as small as possible, right? And then I write about how I’m going to care for myself that day. These days, it’s pretty much getting outside, moving my body. Again, nothing too strenuous. For some people, it could be I’m going to drink enough water, I’m going to eat more vegetables. So, things like that.”
To Sleep, Perchance to Dream!
“The most common presentation that I’m giving right now is on building stress resilience. I go through 12 different strategies and tools to help people build their stress resilience. So that’s absolutely the most common one. And the other one that I usually push on people, because I know it’s important, is my presentation on sleep. Because sleep, I’ve come to realize – even though I’ve basically got into the wellness industry, as a personal trainer – I’ve realized that fitness is not the most important thing in terms of health, that sleep is actually the main driver. I don’t know the background, the foundation, whatever you want to call it, peace, for health, but if you’re not getting a good night’s sleep, you have low energy, you have lower motivation, you’re probably not eating as well, because your sugars, blood sugar balances off and you’re craving more sugar, which then spirals you into a whole sugar thing. So, sleep is really, really important. Another topic that people love, I think mostly because of the cute little title that I made, is called ‘How to Win Your Day, Even When it Feels Like You’re Losing.’ And in that one I do share a lot of different strategies, one of which is making your bed first thing in the morning. There’s a whole really, really great YouTube video by a military guy on why it’s important to make your bed and basically, the gist of it is by making your bed first thing in the morning, you’ve already accomplished one task, you’ve already set yourself in motion in terms of taking action on something. And then the idea is that that progresses throughout the day, and that sets the tone for your day.”
Hint: It works better if you get out of bed first.
