Whaaaat just happened? Yes, it’s almost the end of 2021 and most of us are still reeling from 2020. Yikes. As 2022 looms before us like an Apocalypse horseman (Pestilence? Just kidding, we’re not that dire), us marketers, CEOs and business owners need to think about strategic goal setting.
This micro episode is all about helping you plan so you can get to where you want your company or team to be in the next three years (instead of catastrophizing or worrying about how on earth you’ll get there).
Here’s some highlights:
- Audit your content and your team
We’ll keep telling you (until our throats are hoarse) how important a content audit is. It helps you see what pieces are doing well, what you can dust off and repurpose or regroup, and to address any content gaps. The other side of the audit can come from your team. Find out how your team feels about the contents that you’ve produced, or the marketing things that you’ve done this year. Audit how your team feels in general – kind of like a team emotional audit.
- Keep your curiosity aflame
So, how do you keep your curiosity alive? We say, the biggest part of writing is reading, and conversing with others. Look for the inspiration that comes from your consumption. Our best ideas are always sparked by seeing what other people are doing and being inspired by them 😲.
- Draft your vivid vision
Do some visioning and re-evaluating of where things are going. Our vivid vision idea was inspired by Cameron Herald (of 1-800-Got-Junk fame) who says, ‘Take that pen and paper, and get offline. Get away from your distractions.’ So, don’t block yourself from the get-go by thinking about how or what or why. Figure out where you want your company to be in three years and reverse engineer from there!
- Take a closer look at the numbers
Sit down and look at the viability of your plans. Is it possible? What are you willing to give up and what is an absolute no? Then break it down for yourself and your team so you can get everyone’s buy-in.
