Podcasting marketing can be a little (dare we say it? yes we do)… tired. Boring. Repetitive. Especially if you keep churning out the same old content. That’s why we want to share how you can really go beyond that lead image you associate with your podcast and give you some ideas on how to (visually) tell a story around your podcast. The kind that gets people to listen.
Here’s how to build a visual brand that your audience engages with:
1. Think beyond the cover art
You probably understand the process and the writing✍ side of getting your podcast out (shownotes and blogs etc) but to really tap into the next level you need to look at your imagery. Most people get the identifier (aka cover art) right on their hosting channels but try thinking tactically about changing this every few seasons, for example.
We suggest a roster of five images a month (and yes, you can use guest headshots every now and then) – and support from a designer who can really tap into your look and feel. Listen to find out more on image themes and using filters, getting to grips with resizing for different channels and visual branding that works 🤩🤩.
2. Use visual storytelling
We talked about this in the Holy Trinity of Podcast Hooks. Visuals can tell a story📖. Every couple of episodes we regroup and brainstorm a new theme, then do a day of photo shoots around this (maybe we think we’re funnier than we are, but hell, we go for it💨💨). We then have a slew of imagery we can use for the next few months or until we’re tired of it. Often, the visual is what gets people to click 👆 (or not). In this episode, we share more on our hook and how it led to our positioning, the entertainment quotient and how images can really up your entertainment game.
3. Keep your video on
Yes, it’s a podcast, but keep your video on so you can pull out clips. People like seeing these snippets or promo clips from a podcast. Also, you can take the whole podcast and post it on YouTube or whatever video platform you use as a visual version of your podcast👀👀. Find out how this evergreen content can give you loads of nuggets down the line that you can draw material from and why it’s important to set parameters from the get-go.
